Salba - Is it all It’s Cracked Up To be?0

Is Salba - the superfood once used by the Aztecs to power their civilization’s health and vibrance - really as good as we’ve read? In a word, Yes! I bought my own can of it and used it in cereal, scrambled eggs, cookie recipes and whatever else I might cook up - including lasagna and yes, it did increase my energy levels, yes, it did make me more regular and yes, it is tasteless, and makes me feel full.

I noticed that each grain became gelatinous and expanded when wet - thus it must expand in my stomach and make me feel full. Anyway, I’ve just written another article on it and have found a reasonably-priced source of Salba. It’s still pretty new in the United States and most people still haven’t heard of it.

Is NuGreens a Real Superfood?0

Posted by wellness in general, health and wellness, salba, NuGreens (May 5, 2008 at 2:26 am)

I’ve written about Salba. It’s a real superfood or supergrain. But what about NuGreens, the new green superfood?  Is it really like carrying around 5 nutritious ready-to-eat salads?

I’ve tried it and personally, I think it’s claims are ‘understated’!  I opened my bottle of NuGreens and found a green powder in it. I measured out a teaspoon and put it in an 8 ounce glass of very cold water, stirred it up and noticed that it dissolved very quickly and thoroughly into the water - some of the heavier granules of powder settled at the bottom of the glass.  I tipped the glass up and gulped down a large swallow. It was surprisingly good! Refreshing! A touch of bitter sweetness reminding me of stevia or some other type of sweetener.  I waited a few seconds, then finished the glass off.

Within ten minutes, I was feeling good! I hadn’t eaten anything that morning and I was energized and focused for several hours afterwards. In the afternoon, when I usually get a little drowsy, I didn’t. This was good.  I didn’t expect such a kick out of it.  Anyway, I take it each morning and I’m getting used to the higher level of energy I have.

I suspect everyone who tries this stuff will have a slightly different experience with NuGreens but after looking at the ingredient list and the cold manufacturing process, I am not surprised that it does have such an effect.  I’ll give it a C+ or B- for taste and if you put more than a teaspoon in an 8 oz glass of water or milk or juice, you will get some residue of the powder at the bottom of the glass.

To learn the ingredients in this new superfood, go to this NuGreens article.
